Fresh Faces Friday: Cousin Feo

Fresh Faces FridayFresh Faces Friday: The Fresh Committee Introduces Cousin Feo

A few times in a generation you come across an artist with a compatible discography, consistent output, and a crazy pen game. Cousin Feo is one such artist.

The Los Angeles based MC effortlessly melds bars and gravely instrumentals in an ode to the beautiful game – soccer. Creating an entirely new aesthetic not previously seen or heard in hip-hop. Music and sports have long been intertwined, but Feo is bringing originality and a new element to the concept with his love for footy.

A game he grew up playing given his Guatemalan, El Salvadorian, and black roots. All the while, his South Central upbringing in the 90’s exposed him to the likes of Wu-Tang Clan and Bone Thugs N Harmony among others. He started meshing the two in 2018 and created what you hear today:

We the illest rockin’, we get the killers poppin’/

Yeah I’m going out a legend like Labruna/

I check you with the bloha/

Got a message from Mercuda/

That read, let the West know, I move like Crespo/

Red stripe across my chest, I’m a red nose/

Spoke a spliff in the templo, get love like Enzo/

Pass the skole, torch a dole, give your homies a death blow/

Having started in France, and continued in Argentina, his latest album Belegen Kaas dropped in June celebrates a handful of the flyest Dutchmen to ever grace the pitch.

Distinctly underground with crossover potential define Cousin Feo.
