Fresh Faces Friday: The Fresh Committee Introduces Semi Six
Nowadays there’s all kinds of rap – trap, pop, East Coast, West Coast, regardless of what you call it there will always be tracks that stand out.
This was the case with Semi Six’s 2019 single Dirt. From the upbeat production which samples the Four Tops to the slick lyrics, it set the stage right for the Detroit MC’s recently released follow up entitled Candy Cane.
Producer Ilajide who collaborated on the 2018 album Park Orange has shown serious talent behind the boards. Coupled with Semi’s street poetry on It’s Time:
Keep it real boy we not mirages/
Got massages from a chocolate goddess nod if I’m not a novice/
Impala’s is polished my wallet is guac’ish amount make solid visages/
Spend what’s in fromages on watches, kinda obnoxious, drivin’ out exotic garages in somethin’ topless/
I’m pompous, ya style rhombus/
I’m sippin’ pinot, chico, I’m not ya migo/
Send you to Isa for ya ego, my fee a kilo/
The project is a notch above most and sonically in a class with major label releases coming out of The D.
His journey as an artist started back in 2012 while living abroad in Malaysia and opening for the likes of DJ Whoo Kid among others. Its easy to tell Semi Six prides himself on sharp lyricism and style, both of which are prevalent throughout the steady stream of new releases he’s been serving up.
