Earlier this year, T-Pain dropped his latest studio LP, 1UP. It was the auto-tune king’s first album since 2016. 1UP features 12 new tracks, including welcomed collaborations with the likes of Lil Wayne, Boosie Badazz, Tory Lanez, Flipp Dinero, O.T. Genasis and more. Today the bonified hit-maker grabs G-Eazy for a new track dubbed “Girlfriend.” The new single “Girlfriend” features production from Love & Hip-Hop Hollywood‘s A1. Furthermore, this is the first time T-Pain and G-Eazy have teamed up on a record.
“I needed something to set myself apart, while still being able to use my harmony and turn my voice into an instrument,” T-Pain explained to Genius earlier this year, opening up about his choice to use Autotune. “Basically, I saw my songs at the time as instrumentals, even with my vocals on it. I heard it on a Jennifer Lopez song. It was a Dark Child remix of ‘If You Had My Love.’”
“I did all of ‘em for free and all I wanted you to do was get back on my shit, that’s it. I just wanted an even swap, ’cause I was going to charge you just as much as you charge me,” T-Pain continued by discussing his most memorable features. “Then nothing was reciprocated, you know what I’m saying? But, even if I got somebody to even try to be on the song, they would come back and charge.”
