We Sit Down Chevy Woods To Discuss His New Music, Taylor Gang, and More.
[dropcap size=big]P[/dropcap]ittsburgh rapper and record producer Chevy Woods also a part of Wiz Khalifa’s “Taylor Gang” collective. An independent record label, music management, and music production company. Sat with us to discuss his new mixtape ‘New 90’s’, Taylor Gang and Jimmy Wopo.
Woods signed to Taylor Gang back in 2011 and this year on his birthday he’s releasing his sixteenth mixtape dubbed New 90’s on May 13th. Woods first met Wiz through a music studio in Pittsburgh and he never expected they would end up where they were now. They had an immediate connection and big dreams.
“This is what we talked about doing, it means everything because we built it from the ground up,”
Taylor Gang recently signed Pittsburgh rapper Jimmy Wopo. Unfortunately, the label didn’t have time to announce his signing before Wopo was fatally shot last June. Woods enjoyed the energy that Jimmy brought to Taylor Gang. Here’s what he had to stay about Jimmy Wopo.
“He brought an energy that was just different. We were just attracted to that because we know where that comes from. We know that means someone is really passionate about what they do. We’re not going to just let his name die out,” Woods said about Wopo.
Fortunately, Taylor Gang’s sitting on some unreleased verses of Wopo that Woods and Taylor Gang plan on working with. So be on the lookout for that. Hopefully, we’ll get a release soon.
As of today, his discography consists of over one hundred records. With some of his favorites being “Medicated” with longtime friend Wiz Khalifa. As well as “Things Change”, “Alright” and “All Said and Done” featuring DeJ Loaf.
Depending on the vibe in the room and the beat. Woods said his writing process goes with whatever the surroundings are. Sometimes he writes out verses ahead of time and other times, he lets the verses come to him as he records.
“For the last four months, I’ve been stuck in this rap mode of writing down all my raps, so I’m making sure all my bars are up to par,”
Fans can expect solid lyricism and the same great production as his last project Lewis Park Legend. “Empty Bottles” featuring Wiz Khalifa and “Corner Poccet” are two of Woods’ favorite songs from New 90’s. In the past, he has filmed music videos before the project has dropped, but this time, he wants to hear what tracks the fans like the most before picking which videos to make.
Fans have a lot to look forward to with the release of New ’90s, music videos, and the Decent Exposure Tour that Chevy will be on with Wiz Khalifa, French Montana and Playboi Carti. Woods also told The Fresh Committee, he will finally have an official album that comes out this fall 2019.
