The collection references work from Space Oddity, Hunky Dory, Ziggy Stardust, and Aladdin Sane. Vans also offers up an accompanying apparel collection along with a children’s footwear release. Bowie inspiration stems from his early albums of the 1960s to some of his latest work in 2016. Projects that surely inspired his apparel and children’s Sk8-Hi Zip and Old Skool V sneakers.
You’ll notice short-sleeved T-shirts, as well as long-sleeved T-shirts, that feature classic David Bowie graphics. You notice inspirations from Ziggy Stardust to Aladdin Sane. Some of the shirts utilize the iconic red and blue lightning bolt that Bowie made famous during his Aladdin Sane album era. That in addition to Vans’ iconic checkerboard palette make for a familiar yet new feel.
Some of the other pieces are inspired by his Serious Moonlight graphic from the 1984 concert video. These can be found on one of the trucker caps and long sleeve t-shirts. Vans incorporate a bit of Bowie in every piece of this collection and it shows.
