Allonzo Trier was the Hidden Gem of this Draft Class

NY Daily News
Allonzo Trier is giving Knicks Fans Something to be Happy for This Season

This past draft may go down as one of the best in league history. With Luka Doncic earning an all-star nod and even almost making it as a starter, it’s clear to see he is the best player and also one of the youngest in his class. Other great rookie campaigns include Marvin Bagley, Deandre Ayton, Trae Young and Jaren Jackson and they all were drafted in the top 5. The person who surprised everyone this year is currently a New York Knick.

With the ninth pick of the 2018 NBA Draft the New York Knicks selected Kevin Knox from the University of Kentucky. Knox is enjoying a decent rookie campaign as he is experiencing his ups and downs while on his learning curve. It is the other rookie on their squad that took the league by surprise.

Allonzo Trier’s name wasn’t called in the first round. Not even in the second. However he has proved to be better than most lottery picks and is an absolute steal for the New York Knicks. While the Knicks are experiencing yet another torrid season, they have a lot to be excited about. Allonzo Trier is a throwback guard, one who doesn’t waste dribbles and is decisive when picking his spots. His efficiency is through the roof and the kid rarely takes a bad shot.

Along with being such a great offensive talent, it is his intangibles that should have Knicks fans salivating. He is a more than willing defender and makes hustle plays with the likes of a Marcus Smart tenacity. I believe in a season or two the Knicks will become relevant once again in the NBA once Kristaps returns from injury and Kevin Knox is a top young wing in the league. If anything they have a budding star in Allonzo Trier. Watch his highlights from the other night against the Houston Rockets where he dropped a mere 31 points in a thriller that saw James Harden put up 61 points. Ouch.
