Who is Dr. Sebi and What Does He Have to do with Nipsey Hussle?
Before being killed Los Angeles MC Nipsey Hussle drops details of a documentary he was making which shed a light on the life of Dr. Sebi, a doctor who claimed to have successfully cured AIDS, and many fans on social media believe that the rapper’s connection to the figure is what led to his death.
In the late 1980s, Dr. Sebi also known as Alfredo Darrington Bowman was in the middle of a number of criminal cases for “practicing medicine without a license.” Dr. Sebi was sued by the state of New York for claiming to cure AIDs. Dr. Sebi went as far as to pay for advertisements in the Amsterdam News, the Village Voice, and the New York Post that said: “AIDS has been cured.”
Standing behind his findings, Dr.Sebi went to trial where he provided 77 patients of whom he claims he cured helping him win the case. Shortly after winning his trial in New York, Dr. Sebi went on to win in federal court as well while helping many celebrity patients including Michael Jackson with his “African Bio-Electric Cell Food Therapy” before later suing the king of pop in 2015 for $380,000 in unpaid bills and $600,000 in lost revenues.
In 2016, Dr. Sebi got in trouble for money laundering after attempting to board a private plane in Honduras with $37,000 in cash. After another arrest in Honduras, Dr.Sebi ultimately lost his battle to pneumonia while in police custody at 82 years old.
