Virgil Abloh Honors Michael Jackson In His Fall/Winter 19 Collection for Louis Vuitton

Virgil Abloh Honors The King Of Pop With F/W 19 Collection for Louis Vuitton.

The second collection for Virgil Abloh‘s Louis Vuitton collection is what we’ve all been waiting to see. His first  collection even outsold LV’s popular collaboration with Supreme by 30-percent. With the second collection, Virgil pays homage to the king of pop, Michael Jackson. Even the invitations for the event showed a glove printed with the show info, reminiscent of Michael Jackson’s signature bedazzled white glove.

The set for the fashion show featured elements to resemble MJ’s iconiconic “Thriller” music video. Stars came from all over to watch the show. Naomi Campbell and Kid Cudi were in attendance as well as a host of other celebrities. The new collection features simplistic yet complex monochrome looks. With hues of sand and beige, on trench coats, jackets and wide trousers as key elements. As the show continued, some models even wore studded gloves, a clear nod to Michael Jackson. Several pieces also feature Michael Jackson prints across both shirts and sweatshirts. In addition, Virgil Abloh also unveiled  a collection of new bags. One being an over-sized monogram backpack that I’m absolutely in love with. As well as new versions of the classic Keepall bag in bright colors like fuchsia, neon yellow and more.

On to the shoes. For his second collection when it comes to footwear. Virgil brought in a classic streetwear touch by introducing new sneakers. The shoes feature retro yet modern aesthetic that combines Louis Vuitton’s luxury background with Abloh’s streetwear style. Near the end of the show, the lights went off and models came out wearing light-up sneakers and carrying illuminated Keepall bags while the band sang a cover of MJ’s “Wanna Be Startin’ Something.” The show ended with model Alton Mason running down the runway in a purple satin outfit doing a series of flips.

Virgil Abloh toned things down this time around. His approach to his sophomore collection for Louis Vuitton focuses on elevating silhouettes. He’s experimenting with new textures, trying different sizes and exploring  new materials. In total there are 65 eye-catching looks.
