Spotify announced today that they will be dropping half of their Hate Content and Hateful Conduct policy. The streaming company announced the new policy in April and it wasn’t received well by artists and fans alike. The popular opinion was there is no way to fairly “police” every artist’s catalog to make the decision on whose music should be removed from Spotify playlists and whose should remain. Spotify explained the decision to reverse the policey this week in a statement on their site. “While we believe our intentions were good, the language was too vague, we created confusion and concern, and didn’t spend enough time getting input from our own team and key partners before sharing new guidelines.” What do you think about this news? Is this a good move for music?
