The New Air Jordan 3’s Pay Tribute to the 1988 Dunk Contest

The New Air Jordan 3’s Take Us Back Way Back to the 1988 Dunk Contest.

We knew it wouldn’t be long until Jordan Brand teased us with a new pair of 3’s. We now have an early look at a sneaker that is near and dear to Michael. Giving feelings of nostalgia to all those who watched or played basketball in the late-’80s to early-’90s, this upcoming Air Jordan 3 is a tribute to the famous 1988 dunk contest.

It was 30 years ago, when superstars Michael Jordan and Dominique Wilkins went dunk-for-dunk, only to have MJ win it all with  famous free-throw line dunk which earned him a perfect score. In the AJ3 “1988 Dunk Contest,” we see an almost-identical pair to what His Airness was wearing during the contest, but with a translucent sole that displays a red stripe — gesturing the free-throw line where he took off from. Another great historical detail can be found at the tongue where the numbers “147” are present, indicating his final points accumulated during the 1988 dunk contest.

Look for these to drop on February 14 for a retail price of $200 USD and let us know what you think in the comments section below. Lastly, for more sneaker Jordan Brand news The Air Jordan 3 “Black Cement” Return For Mike’s 55th Birthday.
