KTIII: How old were you when you first got involved on the modeling scene?
Lexi Atkins: I was 16 years old when I had my first “modeling” shoot when I was Miss Illinois Teen USA 🙂
KTIII:Do you feel that music and fashion go hand in hand? and how so?
Lexi Atkins: Yes I definitly do! Both music and fashion to me are forms of expression! I express myself thru my music along with the way that I dress!
KTIII: At what point did you realize that you wanted to add music into the mix of what you’re doing?
Lexi Atkins: Music has always been a part of my life since I was a little girl. I’ve always honestly wanted to pursue it as a career… but I never had the courage to really do so because to me music is so personal. I think the more I grew into myself and my voice… the more courage I had to really express publically.
KTIII: How would you describe your sound? What artists influence you when you’re working on your music?
Lexi Atkins: I would describe my sound as sweet and sour. I know that may sound silly but it’s really the first thing that came to my mind. I think aspects of my voice and writing comes off very light and angelic… but I also think it may come off a bit bitter / out of the ordinary. I’m honestly influenced by all walks off life. There’s really not one artist that I can’t draw some sort of inspiration from.
KTIII:How did you connect with the producers for Purr? The single is very ethereal and has a fun sound.
Lexi Atkins: I was connected to them thru a mutual friend. Im forever thankful for her! This whole project has been just the 3 of us so over this past year creating it we’ve become really close.
KTIII: What inspired you to release the single Purr? What was in your mind?
Lexi Atkins: My cat 12 actually was a big inspiration behind the song. We were sitting together at my apartment one night brain storming back and forth and her attitude towards them was so funny. We started talking about the situation and the relationship cats have with women and from there we started writing the song!
KTIII: If you could cover any song, which one would it be?
Lexi Atkins: That’s a really hard question…..there are some many songs I would love to cover! Lately I’ve really wanted to do a little throw back cover to Spooky Black.. maybe I will soon.
KTIII: Do you feel quite a bit of pressure to live up to certain expectations or prove yourself as a singer?
Lexi Atkins: Sometimes I definitely do. There are so many talented artists and the game I feel like keeps getting more and more competitive. But that’s life… I just try to constantly remind myself that at the end of the day all I can do is give my all to become the best me possible. No one can compare to you… and that in my opinion is all of our super powers.
KTIII: What are some of the challenges that you’ve faced as a young woman in such a male dominated music industry?
Lexi Atkins: I honestly try not to focus on male and female. I focus most on staying as grounded and true to myself as possible. I’ve had challenges but I I can’t say that it’s anymore than anyone else. I think if I just stayed focused on doing good, good will come.
KTIII: What projects are you the most excited for right now?
Lexi Atkins: I’m most excited to finally release this album I’ve been working on for the last year! I cannot cannot wait to get it all out! I’m aiming around the first of the new year! I’m also really excited for a new Netflix show I’m apart of called “Altered Carbon“.
KTIII: Do you have any advice that you would give to aspiring singers who’d like to get their music out there?
Lexi Atkins: PUT IT OUT! I think the more content you have and the more you keep creating you’re bound to reach the stars Gary Vay-Ner-Chuk @garyvee has some really good podcasts I like to listen to for up and coming artists. He’s someone I really like to listen to for advice.
