The First Tesla Model 3 Rolls Off Production Line
Tesla‘s first production Model 3 has just rolled off the production line to its new owner, Elon Musk. Tesla, running ahead of schedule for maybe the first time, is set to deliver its first 30 vehicles at a party on July 28th.
If you preorder a Model 3, you’ll likely still have to wait awhile, but Musk expects production to ramp up to over 1,500 cars by the end of September.
The 3 was built to be the affordable Tesla for the everyday consumer. With the base price starting at $35,000, it’s much more affordable than the $70,000+ Model S. If you take advantage of the $7,500 federal tax credit for electric vehicles, you can pick one up for as little as $27,500.
Will this be the mass-market car Musk has hoped for? Only time will tell, but for now luxury electric cars have gotten just a bit closer to being a reality for the everyday consumer.
