The third season of Fox’s hit show Empire has concluded and brought many highs and lows. As a gift to the fans, Jussie Smollett and Pepsi teamed up to present the visual album “When Cookie Met Lucious.” Smollett plays the fictional singer, Jamal Lyon the middle son of the Lyons.
The character draws many comparisons to singer Frank Ocean. Being that both singers are black gay performers in an industry that isn’t open to their lifestyles. The visual album is a nod to Ocean. In 2015 saw the singer released his critically acclaimed visual album “Endless“.
The visual album premiered exclusively through the Shazam app. Which allowed fans to access the content through the app. This also continues the relationship with Empire and Pepsi who sponsored them in previous seasons. The visual album was a major plot in the show’s third album, chronicling the love life of Cookie and Lucious Lyon. The 24-minute clip features Smollett performing songs from the soundtrack.
This summer Smollett is seen in the hit Alien: Covenant film playing Ricks. You can read my review of the film here.
