Brooklyn-based R&B singer Jesse Boykins III brings life back to the genre with the soulful mixtape ‘Bartholomew‘. Boykins has been making waves in the industry for some time since releasing his debut EP ‘Dopamine: Life on My Back’ in 2008, before collaborating with the likes of Melo-X, Theophilus London, Jessie Ware among others. The singer soon became a regular on sites like The Fader and Pitchfork many of them citing the singer for his passionate voice and experimenting with his musical abilities. The mixtape marks the third in his career, and first since his 2014 cover mixtape ‘P.O.P [Purpose or People]’ and the first release since his critically acclaimed studio album ‘Love Apparatus LP’ also released in 2014.
Following the methods of his previous releases, the Bartholomew mixtape explores a vast array of genres not normally found in modern R&B albums, such as Country, Dance/Electronic, and Reggae, none of which Boykins is a stranger to. 17 tracks deep, the tape features a hefty amount of guest appearances by artists like Willow Smith, Donnie Trumpet, Luke James, Mick Jenkins, Little Simz, Isaiah Rashad, Syd of The Internet and more.
