When you have a home uniform as iconic as Barcelona’s, how much are you able to do to update it each season? For the 2016-17 season, Nike is getting rid of the sponsorship across the chest for a tribute to the ball clubs past. What’s the occasion? It’s the 25th anniversary of the ball clubs win in the 1991–92 European Cup (now called the UEFA Champions League).

The 2016-17 kit returns to vertical red and blue stripes (in comparison to last year’s horizontal design) as thinner tonal stripes appear within the broad ones in honor of 1991-92 historic Champions League win. Naturally, modern updates will be present as the old school jersey has been modified agility rib fabric at the sleeves and shoulders as the Swoosh’s AeroSwift tech enables the construction throughout the jersey. There are a bunch of small touches hinting to the clubs past on both the interior and exterior of the shirt, including a small woven Senyera and nods to the official club anthem, “Cant del Barca.”

FC Barcelona’s brand new home shirt will be paired with blue shorts and matching socks and is available now in both authentic and replica form from nike.com.
