Superstar Brazilian soccer player Neymar Jr. has teamed up with the Michael Jordan. This will be the first time Jordan Brand has worked on a complete collection for an athlete who isn’t endorsed by Jordan Brand. The collaboration has been in the works for a while with the Air Jordan 5 being the first shoe to get a Neymar colorway. Neymar Jr.’s collection also marks the first time Jordan Brand is collaborating with a soccer player on performance products.
The NJR x Jordan Brand Hypervenom soccer shoes take inspiration from the Air Jordan 5 which is Neymar Jr.’s favorite retro style — with its signature fighter jet shark teeth on the upper. It also takes design cues from the AJ 5′s reflective tongue with a nice big Swoosh on the Hypervenom. Sign it off with the iconic Jumpman logo which is plastered on the heel and the sole, and the laces feature the initials “DL” commemorating Neymar Jr.’s son. Last but not least the shoe features Neymar Jr.’s Brazil number 10, which appears on the other side of the boot, and Jordan’s iconic number 23 on the right boot. Both numbers are embroidered in the respective fonts of their jerseys. Alongside the cleats are a soccer training shoe and a full apparel collection.
“Michael Jordan set the standard for greatness. He’s an incredible competitor and a champion. I’ve always admired him, so to collaborate with him and have his icon on my boots means a great deal to me.”
Says Neymar Jr. about the upcoming collaboration with the basketball legend. The praise is returned from Jordan himself, who said.
“I’m excited that Neymar and the Jordan Brand are working together. I’m a fan of his creativity, style and passion for the game of soccer. He’s a special player and I look forward to this collaboration.”
You can expect Neymar Jr. to wear the NJR x Jordan Brand Hypervenom (kinda a mouthful) this August while competing for Brazil. The collection is available today on the Nike Football App and June 3 on Nike.com.
